 | Subject: A sit down with some members of the Steel Bull Fight Squad Tue Aug 05, 2008 9:30 am | |
| TUF.com: We are here with four members of Steel Bull Fight Squad including Co-Founder Jonny Steels himself. These four gentlemen have fights this coming saturday at SCF 19. In studio with Jonny is undefeated Middleweight Carl Frazier, Heavyweight James Boltz, and a new comer to the league, making his pro debut, Featherweight Bobby Mercer. Bobby lets start with you.
You make your debut against a crafty verteran Ana Garcia. How do you see this fight going and what do you look to prove in this fight?
Bobby: I'll tell you Robert, Ana is 0-2 so far in the SCF, but dont let her record fool you, I know she is better than her record indicates, but I am afraid she will run into her third loss this Saturday facing me. Having grown up on the mean streets of Detroit, I really have no fear stepping into that cage with anyone. I may receive a beating but at least I don't have to fear for my life. I am gonna come in and show all the other Featherweights that my nickname is No Mercy for a reason.
TUF.com: Now we saw you spar the other day with William Foster, another teammate, but William has had a bad stroke of luck since coming to SCF and you knocked him out. Does that give you confidence going into this fight being that William had four fights and you still laid him out?
Bobby: Ya it does. It shows that no matter your experience level, all it takes is one good shot. Jonny almost found that out against Rico Cortez. HAHAHAHA. *Jonny reaches over to smack Bobby, but Bobby laughs and runs*
TUF.com: Yes that fight was an exciting one. James Boltz, you have had a bit of bad luck in your last couple of fights and even contemplated retirement. What has changed your mind and what have you been working on for this fight against Brian Dknee?
James: You know it was the great bunch of guys that I train with that helped me decide to stay and give it another go. I have changed up somethings in my personal life that should allow me to focus on my fighting career. I have a new found determination and have changed the way I train. In this fight with Brian, you will see a new James Boltz. Dont blink cause you know how fast Lightning strikes, and this will be over.
TUF.com: You can definately tell a new found confidence in your voice that wasnt there before. We wish you and Brian well for this fight. Carl, step on up here, now you are undefeated thus far in your stay here at the SCF, but you are getting ready to face a more experienced fighter in Andy Magnum, who is 4-4. He has twice the fight experience you do, so how do you see this one panning out?
Carl: Andy is a fantastic fighter Robert. I expect nothing less than a war. This without question will be my toughest test yet. With as many times as he has fought, he has had that many more times to train and better himself. I plan to impose my will and let my instincts take over. Hopefully I can get the submission early, but wont be suprised if it goes to the judges. He has two loses to Gilberto and I know from first hand experience that Gilberto is as tough as they come. Andy also has some good wins by different ways, showing he is versitile. I have to do what I want to do and not play his game. It will be a great fight this I guarantee.
TUF.com: You are always so humble Carl, a lot of up and coming fighters could stand to take a few humility classes from you, such as that new Daimen kid.
Carl: HAHAHAHA, you know I wish I could say I'd be a good teacher of humility, but you see how well I did with Jonny. Daimen is on a high right now, having won his debut fight and feels he can conquer the world right now. He has a lot of growing to do as a fighter and as a person, but I think he will come around and if not, as Jonny said, someone will eventually shut him up.
TUF.com: Well thank you for your insight Carl. Speaking of Jonny, come on up. First off, great fight against Rico Cortez, you managed to pull off the victory and earn another shot at Gilberto Dos Santos, give us your thoughts on your fight with Rico and your upcoming fight with Gilberto.
Jonny: Well my fight with Rico was an absolute war. I have to be honest, I expected to go in and just walk through him, but he suprised me with his strength and toughness. He kept hammering away at my legs and by the third round my left leg was numb from all the shots. I finally wore him down enough to get some good solid shots in and it was enough for the ref to stop it. My hats off to Rico, he has the potential to be a great one. As far as my upcoming fight with Gilberto, I plan to do what I want to do and try to keep the fight where I am strongest and try and avoid Gilbertos world. I survived the last time, but I dont want to tempt fate twice. I think it will be another 5 round war, if you guys enjoyed the first fight, dont miss this one.
TUF.com: Your first fight was indeed a war, after Gilberto what are your plans, anyone in particular you'd like to fight?
Jonny: Um, you know I made the mistake of looking past Rico to quickly, so right now I am gonna focus on my fight with Gilberto and whoever the SCF decides to put against me, I'll fight. I wouldn't mind a crack at that Daimen kid, but he has to earn his way up for a shot at me or Gilberto.
TUF.com: Well fellas that is all we have time for, thank all of you for being here with us today. Tune in this Saturday as SCF 19 takes place. A great main event in Gilberto Dos Santos vs Jonny Steels, as well as three other members of the Steel Bull Fight squad fighting that night. We'll see you there. _________________
