PostSubject: Maria Cruz Interview(Opinions of SCF 12, Why Orgs Fold, HCF and more)   Wed Jun 25, 2008 4:06 pm

Bobby Herrington: Welcome back to the show, we finally got her guys! Former IMMAF Lightweight Champion, IMMAF Hall of Famer and now Supreme Cage Fighting Owner, Maria Cruz!

Maria Cruz: Hey guys what's up?

Bobby Herrington: Now I know back in the day you were a kid so we called you Maria but you've accomplished alot since then. Do you prefer Ms. Cruz now or is Maria still cool?

Maria Cruz: Laughs no Maria is just fine. All the guys at the SCF call me Maria so doesn't matter to me honestly, BUT if I had to choose one? Maria.

Bobby Herrington: Alright, Maria it is. Speaking of the SCF how are things going there?

Maria Cruz: Things are running smoothly now, we started off a bit rocky at the beginning which is expected with every organizaition but in the end it all worked out

Bobby Herrington: We often see many orgs open, but very few stay around longer than a year, two years tops. What made you decide to break away from the IMMAF, away from your Gym and create an organization of your own when many around you were failing?

Maria Cruz: Well for one I'm always up for new challenges and this was definately a challenge. Even back when I was fighting I was a natural Bantamweight, less then Bantam, I was 125 fighting guys at 155, 185, 205 and up. If someone tells me I can't then I have to prove I can. They told me the SCF wouldn't last long and now we're on Card number 13 after Starrcadia which I believe made it to 23. Second I'm not a quitter, no matter how bad things are looking I'm in it until the very end be it fighting or building this organization. Alot of people don't have it in them, if things don't go their way they give up.

Another thing we have that few have is mutual respect between the fighters and the officials so we're on even ground, we know what to expect from each other. And then there are those owners who favor friends and or known fighters in order to keep them on board. One thing the SCF will never do is protect well known fighters, or champions as we want only the best to represent our brand. If you come to the SCF don't expect special treatment because of something you've accomplished elsewhere, prove it to the fans of SCF that you're the real deal and earn that special treatment. And I loved the IMMAF when I fought there so breaking away from the IMMAF and the Spitfire Elite was hard, that's where I grew up. If it wasn't for everything I've learned there and the support of the fans family and friends I picked up there I doubt I'd even think to pull off creating the SCF, but it was either this or become like Mitch Armour still fighting when past my prime, and I'll be damned if that was my fate laughs but let's talk about the SCF

Bobby Herrington: Chuckles Ouch, alright, Arnold Hemingway vs Sasha Marquez II, great great fight, great card. What are your opinions on the card and what was the deciding factor that made you choose Sasha Marquez over Ping Wong?

Maria Cruz: Choosing Sasha Marquez over Ping Wong was an easy choice to make, not because I feel either fighter is better than the other but because many people felt Arnold didn't earn the Lightweight title in the first fight with Sasha. If he had fought Ping Wong and won, they'd still say he didn't beat Sasha, if he lost, even worse. If Sasha won in their second fight then the first fight would've been proven to be a fluke. So rather than have any drama drag on between Sasha and Arnold I decided to have them rematch ASAP and I guess it was the right choice because they put on an awesome performance.

As for the SCF 12 Card, it surpassed my expectations for sure. Not just the Main Event but the card as a whole. SCF 12 was actually supposed to be HCF 1, alot of people don't know that but due to confusion between management we had to push the HCF back again and sell it as a Supreme Cage Fight Card which worried me a little. I wasn't too sure if the card would do well with so much new talent but they delivered and the whole card lived up to it's hype.

Bobby Herrington: For sure. And speaking of the HCF, alot of people have been talking about it but very few know anything about it. We've seen the logo around, we've heard rumors of it starting up, what exactly is the HCF? Could you elaborate further so that the people know what's going on?

Maria Cruz: The HCF, Hardcore Cage Fighting (Name subject to change) is a new Organization ran under the Cruz Co. brand, the sister org to the SupremeCF if you will. Alot of people are used to the 3 weight classes Supreme Cage Fighting, but in the HCF there will be 7 different weight classes which means alot less size advantage between the fighters. Basicly it's the stage before the SCF. Alot of fighters come in and get wrecked because they're new, they havent had time to gain experience yet so the HCF is for them to go and get that experience, find out what style favors them, rack up a couple of wins and when ready advance to the SCF.

Bobby Herrington: Nice. When and where can fighters apply if they want to be apart of the HCF?

Maria Cruz: The applications to participate in HCF 1 will be up as soon as I leave here actually, and they'll have now until Saturday to apply. The first card will be aired next Wednesday so if you feel you have what it takes, sign up and hopefully we'll see you at HCF 1!

Bobby Herrington: Awesome, Maria Cruz thank you for your time and hopefully we'll have you back here again soon with more news and updates from Cruz Co.

Maria Cruz: Always a pleasure Bobby, and make sure you guys catch SCF 13 as we have Robert Holgate defending his Middleweight Title against Jonny Steels. Both these guys are good standing up, good on the ground, it's a fight you guys won't want to miss trust me.
